Amazon and Hachette continue contract dispute

There is a thriving literary culture here in Minnesota. Many Minnesotans enjoy a good book, but there are probably not many who think about the distributors of books and how they function. Consumer products company announces huge merger and acquisition

Claritin, Coppertone and other health care products utilized by Minnesota consumers may be under new control according to a May 2 announcement. Bayer will become one of the largest providers of over-the-counter drugs under this consolidation. Last year, this combination would have earned $7.6 billion in revenues.

Technology companies welcomed these decisions and claimed that the rulings would fight abusive and coercive lawsuits by companies, known as patent trolls, that buy patents solely to collect royalties and damages.

Auction house battles over control

However, the 270-year old auction house is engaged in an investor proxy battle over control which will culminate at its May 6 annual meeting. Activist investor and avid art collector Daniel Loeb is seeking a seat on the board and is backing another candidate against the company's two own candidates.
