Appeals court allows players' suit involving contract disputes

The federal 8th Circuit Court of Appeals, in a ruling of interest to Minnesota football fans, kept a lawsuit from the NFL players' union alive in a procedural ruling. The appeals court partially reversed a lower court's decision rejecting the players' collusion claim and sent the case back to a federal court judge for further proceedings.

Fraud suit filed against Minnesota-based Medtronic

Humana, Inc. filed a lawsuit against Minnesota-based Medtronic on May 30 for allegedly marketing the Infuse bone-graft product for uses that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration did not approve and that it made misrepresentations to insurers to cover those uses. This device has sparked products liability charges in numerous forums.

Multi-million dollar securities lending settlement announced

Wells Fargo & Co. entered an agreement to pay $62.5 million to settle class action claims over a securities lending program that the bank managed out of Minneapolis that was riskier than claimed. A federal district court judge in St. Paul, however, has to provide preliminary approval.

Minneapolis starts real estate revival

In conjunction with the construction of a $1 billion Minnesota Vikings stadium, the city's largest real estate market project in 20 years is underway. In May, city officials broke ground on a $400 million mixed-used development which will be constructed next to the new stadium. This project is reversing the disappointment that accompanied the lack of real estate development that the 31-year-old Metrodome did not generate and the current status quo of crumbling asphalt parking lots, tired buildings and insufficient housing.
