Stay Safe MN: New Guidelines Start June 1

Today, Governor Walz announced details about Phase II of the Stay Safe MN plan, which begins June 1. The Stay Safe MN plan may be found here.

Starting June 1, outdoor dining will be allowed at bars and restaurants. Six feet will be required between tables. No more than 50 total customers may be hosted. Reservations are required. Group sizes must not exceed four, or six for families. All workers will be required to wear masks. Patrons will be strongly encouraged to wear masks, at least while ordering. For restaurants without outdoor space, the Walz Administration has asked municipalities to be creative with zoning regulations. Indoor dining will remain prohibited.

Personal care services (e.g. salons, barbers, tattoo parlors) may also resume June 1. Social distancing measures will apply, and occupancy will be capped at 25% of fire code limits. No walk-ins are permitted. Appointments are required. Masks are required for employees and customers.

Campgrounds and charter boats will also be able to open on June 1, subject to guidance. Sanitation plans for common areas will be required. Guidance published by the MN DNR can be found here.

Not everything will change on June 1. For example, noncritical retail will remain at 50% capacity (if safety plans have been adopted) until Phase III. Similarly, gatherings at "Social Settings," such as churches, cannot exceed 10 persons until Phase III, when gatherings of 20 persons will be permitted. Timelines for Phase III or Phase IV haven't yet been set.
